Staff and Our Story
Sandy Collins

Position: Sandy is the director and lead teacher for the M/T
class. Sandy conducts trainings with staff before, and through
out the school year to help maintain a high quality program.

Education and experience: Sandy graduated from the
University of Maryland with a Bachelors degree in early
childhood special education and Vanderbilt University with a
masters degree in education.

Sandy grew up in Maryland where she was heavily involved
with early childhood education. When she moved out to Oregon,
she taught at Tigard Tualatin School District as a special
education teacher, and loved it. She then became one of their
Autism Specialist and High Needs Facilitator. Children who
have disabilities and Literacy are passions for Sandy, so when
the opportunity to become a Response to Intervention (a
general education initiative to provide solid core curriculum
for all and help children struggling in literacy, math and
writing) coordinator for a local school district arose, Sandy
took the opportunity. Sandy saw first hand that there was a
lack of skills children were coming into Kindergarten with. Not
just academics, but social, emotional, language, communication,
problem solving.....many were not well rounded children in
development. Knowing how vital early childhood education is,
Sandy decided to open up a preschool that can incorporate a
well rounded early childhood education that is developmentally
appropriate for all children.

Seeing the need for children needing small class sizes for
Kindergarten, and systematic teaching using research
based/direct instruction curriculum for Reading and Math,
Sandy made the commitment to open a Kindergarten class that
would meet the needs for all children.

Family: Sandy is married and has a wonderful family. Her
family has a mixture of children that are biological, adopted
from the foster care system, and children who are still in
foster care, from ages two to twelve...and wouldn't have it any
other way! They see each child as part of their family, because
every child is a child of God. Sandy and her family love to
travel to Disneyland, Disney World, go to the beach, and visit
family in Maryland (which always involves a trip to DC).
Anything that will create smiles, laughter, memories, and
expand the children's mind and perspectives....that is where
you will find them!
